Clean and Green Initiative and Awotan Landfill

From Awotan Dumpsite to Awotan Landfill
Under the Clean and Green Initiative, the Oyo State Government has converted the former Awotan Dumpsite into the Awotan Landfill. This is a major step toward more sustainable waste management, with plans to prioritize recycling and better control of disposal sites. The initiative reflects the Ministry of Environment and OYOWMA's vision of making Oyo one of the cleanliest states in the federation.
Trees, Schools, and Waterways
The Clean and Green Initiative goes beyond landfills. Over six years, the state has planted 30,000 trees, contributing to greener, healthier environments. 73 public schools have been cleaned by removing shanties and improving surroundings for students and communities.
In flood-prone areas, dredging and desiltation of waterways are ongoing to reduce flooding and improve drainage. These efforts are part of a broader commitment to public enlightenment and enforcement so that environmental gains are sustained.
What's Next
The ministry plans to transition toward formalized recycling systems and continue strengthening waste management regulation and enforcement. Citizens and businesses can support these goals by using only approved waste collectors, avoiding illegal dumping, and reporting issues through the Report page. Together we can keep Oyo clean and green.
